WLHF more information

Image 1 for WLHF more information Since its foundation in 1985, Wiltshire Local History Forum has aimed to promote interest in the local history of Wiltshire, and to bring societies and individuals together for mutual benefit.

Each April, a Day School is held with practical emphasis on sources and methods, followed by the Forum's AGM. A day Conference is organised every October, with talks on a particular theme by visiting speakers and displays by local societies. The meetings normally (but not invariably) take place in Devizes or a similar central location accessible to members throughout the county.

Members receive three Newsletters a year containing reviews of new publications, and articles covering all aspects of local history including new projects and developments, as well as a calendar of local societies' events.

There are occasional other publications such as Wiltshire Newspapers: a guide which is an invaluable reference work for local historians.

The Forum holds in reserve an interest-free Loan Fund to facilitate publishing and other local history projects in the county.

Links are maintained with Wiltshire & Swindon Archives, Victoria County History of Wiltshire, Wiltshire Archaeological & Natural History Society, Wiltshire Family History Society, Wiltshire Buildings Record, Regional History Centre University of the West of England, and similar groups in neighbouring counties. (See links page of this website).

WLHF is a member of the British Association for Local History.
