Our Priorities

Image 1 for Our Priorities

Urchfont Parish Council represents the communities of Urchfont, Wedhampton and Lydeway.

The Council’s priorities for the current year 2010/11 are :

Maintenance of existing community facilities – allotments, cemetery, playing field, children’s play area, village greens, bus shelter and Farmer’s Field

Support young people in the development of their ideas for an activity area

Continue to address climate change through practical initiatives especially the Eco-mapping project

Maintain good communications with local residents to enable the Parish Council to represent their interests

Support local groups and projects with grant aid

Continue to press Wiltshire Council’s Highways to improve their maintenance of roads and road safety, including installation of ‘Urchfont’ signage

Continue to respond to opportunities to comment on planning applications and consultation documents

Urchfont Parish Council represents the communities of Urchfont, Wedhampton and Lydeway, and in doing so :
  • represents the interests of local residents
  • owns the cemetery and allotments
  • rents the playing field from Wiltshire County Council and provides play equipment there
  • is responsible for the Urchfont village pond
  • is consulted over individual development plans where planning permission is required, and other planning matters
  • provides amenity skips - an increasingly used facility
  • awards grants for the benefit of local people - subject to legal limits and the annual budget
  • has responsibility for the Triangle and the two Registered Village Greens at the top and bottom of the village with their seats and litter bins
  • channels information and requests to/from other authorities
  • provides notice boards for parish information
