Whats On
Sustain the Plain is a rural development programme funded principally by the European Union and defra (the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs). It operates across the area of Salisbury Plain and includes towns and villages on and around the edge of the Plain.
The Programme was formed in 2002 and operates until 2008. While the majority of its funds have now been allocated a substantial Small Grants Fund remains open to applications
The Programme is concerned with improving quality of life, and ‘making best use of natural and cultural resources.’ A vast range of activities fall within these broad descriptions as the list of funded projects shows. The Programme is particularly interested in supporting young people 12 – 25, women who find themselves isolated in any sense, and activities associated with the military and civilian communities working together.
Grants provide up to 67% of costs, with applicants funding the remainder from a variety of sources including their own fundraising.
