Easterton Parish Council

The Parish Council's roles and responsibilities can be summarised as follows - The Parish Council is the lowest layer of local government, and its job is to represent the aspirations and concerns of constituents to Kennet District Council and Wiltshire County Council. Parish Councillors attend various committees and other meetings in order to represent the village; for example the Devizes Community Area Forum (DCAF) – this includes District Councillors from Devizes and the local area, a Parish Councillor from each parish and representatives from other local bodies such as the police. A number of changes will take place in May 2009 following the reorganisation of local government and the demise of Kennet District Council. Further details will be posted as they become clear.

The Council consists of the Chair, Chris Saunders; Vice Chair, Shawn White; and the following are members: Terry Deegan, Sue Allen, Mala Waters and Keith Jenssen. They are supported by an employed Clerk/Treasurer, Susan Deegan. Their contact details are available via the link.

One of the main responsibilities of the Council is to set, and then spend, the Precept, which is part of your Council Tax. How that was spent last year can be seen via the finance link below.

Current Village news is published monthly in the Echoes, delivered to every household in the village. For an electronic version, see the link below.

One of the major recent achievements has been the creation of the Village Design Statement, partly to define what we are as a village, and partly to inform Planning decisions. The document can be viewed via the link below.

The Council's Policy with respect to Freedom of Information can be viewed via the link below.

Council Meetings are held monthly on the second Monday of the month. They are held in the Village Hall and start at 7.30pm. All Parish Council meetings are open to the public and there will always an opportunity for members of the public to speak at Council Meetings. If there are any matters which you wish to bring to the Council's attention, or any matters you wish to have on the Agenda, then please contact the Parish Clerk on 813488. See the links below for the agenda for the next meeting, and the Minutes of the most recent meeting.
